Panther Mountain – Echo Cliff
The hike to Echo Cliff on the side of Panther Mountain is certainly not one of the more challenging hikes in the Adirondacks, but you get a lot of bang for your buck in terms of views (especially in the fall). The round-trip hike is only 1.6 miles and can reasonably be done in an hour or less

Getting There
The trailhead is located on Old Piseco Rd directly across the street from Piseco Lake. There is a sign that marks the trailhead but it can be easy to miss if you’re driving too fast. This is a popular trail, so chances are there will be a few other cars parked along the side of the road, indicating you’ve found the trail. The trail is about an hour and 45 minutes from Albany and Syracuse, and roughly 4 hours from Boston and New York City.
The Trail
The trail is rocky with a relatively moderate incline from start to finish. There is one stretch toward the end of the trail that is slightly steep, but overall this is an easy, family-friendly hike.
The View
After a short 0.8-mile climb, the trail arrives at a rocky ledge (Echo Cliff) overlooking Piseco Lake. We hiked in October, just after peak foliage and the views were outstanding.
