Where to See Monkeys in Cartagena, Colombia
Cartagena is a beautiful and vibrant city on the Caribbean coast of Colombia. A typical trip to Cartagena involves strolling along the cobbled streets of the historic old city, dining in as many incredible restaurants as possible, visiting historic sites, enjoying the nightlife and exploring the beaches and islands along the coast. Perhaps a lesser known attraction is the monkey-filled park located just outside the walls of the old city. Â Parque del Centenario may not be at the top of a typical Cartagena itinerary, but the urban park is home to monkeys, iguanas, sloths, and plenty of other city-dwelling critters.
Getting There
The main entrance to the park is located across the street from the Monumento Torre del Reloj, one of the primary gateways through the city walls. There are several entrances to the park along Calle 32, Calle 30, Carrera 8 and Carrera 9.
The Wildlife
Like anything in Cartagena. there will be people offering to give you a tour of the park for a small fee. While probably not necessary, it’s inexpensive and they actually are quite adept at locating the monkeys and sloths which can be tougher to spot. The iguanas are hard to miss.
